📖 Understanding Counting & Numbers

Numbers are symbols we use to count, measure and label things. The digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are used to write all numbers.

When counting objects, we assign one number to each object in order. The last number we say tells us how many objects there are in total.

Place value is very important. In the number 345, the digit 3 is in the hundreds place (worth 300), 4 is in the tens place (worth 40), and 5 is in the ones place (worth 5).

Numbers can be written in words: 1 = one, 2 = two, 10 = ten, 100 = one hundred, 1000 = one thousand.
