The 6th International Public Health Conference (PHCON-26) was inaugurated in Peshawar by the Institute of Public Health & Social Sciences, Khyber Medical University. The main focus of the opening plenary session was non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and strengthening health systems, with participation from national and international experts.

Experts highlighted that heart disease-related deaths in Pakistan are significantly high, calling for stronger primary health care, public awareness, and comprehensive national policies.

To prevent non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure, priority should be given to a healthy lifestyle, tobacco cessation, balanced diets, and physical activity.

Foot injuries in diabetes patients can largely be prevented through early screening, patient education, and timely treatment.

Nearly 40% of cancers are preventable, emphasizing the need for expanded screening programs, vaccination, and the use of modern technology.
The conference also featured 32 pre-conference workshops, scientific parallel sessions, quizzes, and 24 research presentations.
Conclusion: PHCON-26 underscored the urgency of NCD prevention, health policy reform, cross-sector collaboration, and robust health systems to secure a healthier and sustainable future for Pakistan.
